Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach designed to help individuals work through and process distressing memories. This innovative method helps to harness the brain’s natural ability to reprocess difficult past events and heal from wounds in the past. EMDR therapy has been shown to help individuals fully process traumatic memories, allowing them to integrate their experiences into their overall life narrative.
If you think you might be interested in intensives, please contact our office to schedule a free 20-minute consultation call with one of our trained EMDR therapists. During this call, we will talk about your needs and determine whether intensive EMDR treatment might be a good fit for you. We will also discuss which intensive package might be best for you given your specific goals. If you decide to book an intensive, you will also receive the pre-treatment workbook to fill out prior to your assessment session.
This 90-minute session will usually be scheduled a week or two prior to your intensive sessions. During this session, your therapist will review your responses in the workbook and collaborate with you to develop a specific treatment plan tailored to your needs.
We will also talk more in depth about your relevant history, relationships, and therapeutic goals.
During processing sessions, your psychologist will facilitate a number of different trauma-informed exercises related to your treatment plan. Unlike traditional therapy sessions that usually focuses on “talk therapy”, these sessions will will involve recalling difficult memories while simultaneously receiving forms of bilateral stimulation (eye movements, use of handheld tappers, etc.).
In addition to EMDR, your therapist may also utilize a number of other modalities including Internal Family Systems (“parts work”), expressive arts, and Somatic-based therapy.
This session will usually be scheduled a few weeks after completing the intensives treatment.
During this session, we will review the work we have completed and design a plan for next steps in order for you to sustain changes.
