Autism Evaluations

What is an Autism Evaluation?

Child struggling with autism symptoms | Provia Psychology

An autism evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that helps identify patterns in social communication, behavior, and sensory processing. Rather than focusing only on outward behaviors, this process looks at how individuals experience and navigate the world, including how they relate to others, process information, and respond to their environment.

The goal is to provide clarity, validation, and a deeper understanding of strengths and differences. Evaluations also help distinguish autism from overlapping experiences such as anxiety, ADHD, or trauma, so individuals can receive the most appropriate support.

Who It’s For

Autism evaluations are available for children, teens, and adults who are seeking a better understanding of themselves or their child. For children, this may include differences in social interaction, communication, play, or behavior. Teens may experience social challenges, anxiety, or feel different from peers, sometimes masking or camouflaging their experiences.

Adults often seek evaluations after years of feeling misunderstood or noticing long-standing patterns in relationships, communication, or sensory sensitivities. Whether you are exploring this for the first time or looking for further clarity, an evaluation can provide meaningful insight and direction.

What We Look At

Our autism evaluations explore a range of developmental, social, and behavioral factors, including:

• Social communication and interaction
• Behavioral patterns and routines
• Sensory sensitivities and processing
• Emotional regulation
• Developmental history and lived experience

What You Receive

Following the evaluation, you’ll receive a clear understanding of the findings, including diagnostic clarity when appropriate. We provide a detailed report that highlights strengths, differences, and areas for support.

You’ll also receive personalized recommendations to guide next steps, whether that includes therapy, school or workplace accommodations, or strategies to support daily functioning, relationships, and overall well-being.

Testing Process

The process begins with an initial consultation to understand your concerns, history, and goals. From there, we conduct a series of standardized assessments, interviews, and questionnaires to gather a complete picture of functioning across different areas.

Once the evaluation is complete, we review the results with you and provide a detailed report with clear findings and recommendations. This ensures you feel informed, supported, and confident in your next steps.
