As a first-generation BIPOC individual, culture and connection are what I use to navigate the therapeutic relationship. These factors influence the way I can provide understanding and empathy for clients in order to work through shame, guilt, family and intergenerational issues, or any problems that someone may not be aware of occurring through a systemic lens. My holistic approach is aimed at not only helping clients heal themselves from within but also providing for the generations around them and to come.
The confusion, misconceptions, and lack of mental health resources and accessibility growing up have motivated me to contribute to bridging that gap for BIPOC communities. Destigmatizing it and experiencing a difference in my own personal journey reminds me that knowledge is power.

As a therapist, I understand that clients’ current challenges are deeply and sometimes unconsciously influenced by their past, family history, culture, and systems in which we exist. I help clients unearth the not-yet-know aspects affecting their lives, and work to heal, change, or accept them. I prioritize a safe, caring, and sometimes bold therapeutic relationship that nurtures the clients' innate strengths and capacities.
Beyond talk therapy, I also work with the arts (visual art, music, movement) and somatic (body-based) processes to clarify the client’s inner wisdom. You don’t have to consider yourself an artist in order to benefit from creative processes in therapy.

I take an integrative approach to therapy with an emphasis on a client-centered approach to build rapport and meet the needs of my clients. This allows me to utilize unconditional positive regard, not only do I provide a judgment-free space, but I strongly believe in my clients’ own ability to overcome their challenges. I specialize in working with trauma survivors, anxiety disorders, and relationship-based issues. Also, as a member of the LGBTQA+ community, I feel I have a lot to offer in the way of supporting and connecting with clients who are also a part of the community.

In assisting clients with acceptance and authenticity, I use a self-compassion approach. To be compassionate is to treat the self with kindness in response to struggle. Many of us were not taught to be loving to ourselves during moments of suffering. Far too often, we develop a self-critical voice rather than a self-compassionate one. Instead of self-compassion, we often experience feelings of guilt and shame. I work with my clients in extending loving kindness towards the parts of themselves that carry shame.
Something that makes me unique as a therapist is that, in my own practice of authenticity, I embrace the parts of me that are considered alternative. I do not hide my tattoos, my piercings, and the other things that connect me to the darker side of myself. I have heard from many clients who also consider themselves alternative that they have struggled to find a therapist that looks like them. I love that I can provide a non-judgmental and safe space for others who feel like they are outcasts within the norms of society.

I prioritize establishing a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust and safety, creating a space where my clients can address their therapeutic goals. With an Anti-Racist and Feminist lens, I strive to understand the ways in which my client’s intersectional identities might influence their lived experiences. I utilize a trauma-informed approach by integrating a unique blend of talk therapy, EMDR, and IFS-informed interventions to help my clients foster new insights and reclaim their sense of joy and wellness.

I work with a client's natural rhythm, strengths, and needs rather than against them. As a therapist my goal is not to fit people into “perfect person” cut outs, but to understand the goals of my clients and to help them find their intrinsic worthiness.

My cultural identity and nationality as a first-generation Mexican-American as well as queer identity make me a unique therapist. Additionally, my style is less traditional & stoic than most psychotherapists which leads towards a more collaborative approach and challenging my clients.

I use a therapeutic approach that integrates psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and humanistic models to best meet the needs of my clients depending on where they are at in their mental health and the issues they want to address.
My experience as a Chinese American woman and my previous career in social justice education have provided me with the knowledge of how the oppressive structure of our society contributes to people’s internal and external conflicts and the impact of current and historical trauma on our sense of self and sense of belonging.
Being in my 50s, I bring a lifetime of insight and experience to my work with clients that allow me to both relate to my clients and guide them to identify their strengths and understand how to build upon them to heal and grow as a healthy person.

I take a warm, humorous and patient approach to therapy, allowing the client to unfurl at their own pace. Building trust takes time. Above all, I honor the complexities and autonomy of human beings, outside of diagnostic categories that can feel limiting.

I utilize my empathic, caring personality to be present for my clients. We all come from different backgrounds, childhoods, and experiences and that includes me. I make it known to my clients that I am just as human as they are; that none of them are alone in their experiences or feelings.

Ensure that the therapist is licensed to practice in your state or country. Look for qualifications such as Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), Associate Marriage & Family Therapist (AMFT, Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW), Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) or Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PsyD).
Consider the therapist's specialization and experience in the area that aligns with your needs. Some therapists specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship issues, while others focus on specific populations, like children or LGBTQ+ individuals.
Research the therapist's therapeutic approach and philosophy. Do they use evidence-based techniques, like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), EMDR, or Psychodynamic Therapy? Consider how you like to relate to people and how different therapist might work for you.
A strong therapeutic relationship is crucial. Schedule an initial consultation or phone call to assess if you feel comfortable and connected with the therapist. Trust your intuition in deciding if they are a good fit for you.
Determine the therapist's fees and whether they accept your insurance. Our Scheduling staff will always be clear about the cost of sessions before your first appointment.
